In an effort to develop mutual recognition of air cargo security programs, the Government of Canada – in collaboration with the global partners including the United States, the European Union and Australia – has developed an Air Cargo Security (ACS) program that meets the highest standards to reduce risks to the safety and security of the travelling public. This is a similar program to U.S. TSA Certified Cargo Screening Program (CCSP).
In this measure, Transport Canada (TC) has introduced new regulatory requirements for air cargo security which applies to domestic, transborder, and international passenger flights transporting screened passengers from Canada’s designated airports. The measure requires air carriers to secure all air cargo before loading onto the aircraft to the same level of security as that for passenger baggage.
The ACS program applies to any business and/or person that ships or handles cargo that will travel by air, either domestically in Canada or to the United States and other international destinations including air carriers, freight forwarders, air carrier representatives and shippers.
The following Rapiscan systems have met the minimum requirements and will be included on the Qualified Equipment and Services Lists applicable to the Transport Canada ACS program effective immediately:
Dual View Systems
Rapiscan 620DV – Dual View, 640 x 430mm
Rapiscan 627DV – Dual View, 1000 x 1000mm
Rapiscan 628DV – Dual View, 1000 x 1000mm, Low Conveyor
Single View Systems
Rapiscan 620XR – Single View, 620 x 420mm
Rapiscan 627XR – Single View, 1000 x 1000mm
Rapiscan 628XR – Single View, 1000 x 1000mm, Low Conveyor
In addition, you will be pleased to know that Rapiscan is continually seeking to expand our portfolio of air cargo screening solutions and that the U.S. TSA is currently evaluating other Rapiscan Systems screening BPI models including all the remaining single view systems except for 618XR.
With various tunnel sizes, automatic explosive detection, ease of use and superior image quality, with your help, we have successfully deployed over 1,500 large tunnel systems over the last three years alone.
